Question 2: What is the difference between Socialism and Communism? Which is closer to Marxism?
Before indicating the difference between these two, Socialism and Communism, we should know briefly about them first. Due to the movements in the Industrial Revolution, Socialism began to emerge in the late 18th and early 19th century. Basically, this term is a method of managing a society in which industries are controlled by the government rather than individual people, which differs from the doctrine of capitalism. Workers receive a salary and enable to spend their money to buy whatever they want, excepts owing the facilities or production companies, and the government control the means of production in order to benefit the working class. For instance, citizens can own a car, however, they cannot own the factory that producing cars because it opposes the ideology of Socialism. If people work hard, they will receive an additional reward. However, due to the fact that there is no motivation, like owning their own business, to acquire more, this system limits the advancement and production. Another reason why it is unlike Communism is that in socialist community people make a decision through elected government, so most people have a voice to state their opinion on how they want the economy function, which makes socialism be a liberal system. It can be said that Communism is a revolutionary socialism so it is more intense than Socialism. In term of property, Communism believe all property should be public property and the government has a duty to divide it equally to each person. In contrast, Socialism divides property into personal and industrial property. In addition, workers will not receive any additional reward if they work hard, unlike Socialism. Socialism is more liberal than Communism. People can elect parties to govern their socialist country, while in communism the state only has one authoritarian.
