Like previously said, Antigone has lost someone very important to her, her brother. John Q is also in the process of losing his son which is very close to him. Them losing someone they love is the main focus of the story and makes the characters do what they do. For the theme going up against the government, Antigone sprinkles dirt over her brother’s body and is caught. This is against the law because King Creon didn’t want anyone to mourn over a trader, yet Antigone still does it for her brother.

During ancient Greek times, heroes were considered people who did something extremely epic and courageous, such as the journey of Odysseus. In today’s day and age, anyone can be a hero. Martin Luther King Jr may not have defeated real life monsters and fought an epic battle, but he did go on journey to reach his goal of living in a world where all people are equal. Both Odysseus, from The Odyssey by Homer, and Martin Luther King Jr, a civil rights activist, go on similar journeys of a hero to achieve their own goals. They each must defeat different monsters, both literally and figuratively, in order to obtain their goals.
Antigone enact this civil disobedience as a way of fighting and refusing to follow an unjust law made by and unjust King. The people of today can learn from Antigone. We the people today can take the courage and strength from Antigone and look the injustice in the eyes and fight back. We can take action like the Sons of Liberty and start a movement against the injustice and unruly laws. We can look to Antigone and partake in civil disobedience in order to make a movement to prompt change for the better in our world today.
Martin Luther King Jr. Took A Stand by fighting for african americans to be free, have equal rights and to stop racism against them. He was Taking a Stand because he knew racism was wrong and unfair and he wanted to put an end to it. Before Martin Luther King Jr. took a stand, african americans were being discriminated against and it was wrong because they didn’t have the same rights as other people did. Martin Luther King Jr. started the civil rights movement and took a stand by marching in Selma for the right to vote. This was significant in history because Selma led to the passing of The Voting Rights Act that helps black people vote without having to deal with all the unusual laws that stopped many from voting.
