Unit 2: Absolutism and Revolution Portfolio In this unit, you examined the American and French Revolutions. The American Revolution, sparked by conflict over British rule and influenced by Enlightenment ideas, broke colonial ties with a monarchy and yielded a new nation. The French Revolution, inspired by the American Revolution as well as the Enlightenment, freed French citizens from an absolute monarchy and secured equality before the law for all male citizens.
The French, Haitian, and American Revolutions were all sparked from the minds of the colonists, slaves, or lower classes who were treated with inequality by their own governments. In each location, there was a noticeable trend of mistreatment between government and people. In Haiti, slaves brought over by the French who captured the island, and forced them into brutal labor in what was the most valuable and wealthy are at the time. The years 1750-1900 are better known as the Revolution Era. During this time period, there were several revolutions that occurred throughout the developing world. Two of the main revolutions were the French Revolution and the Latin American Revolution. Both revolutions followed the anatomy of a revolution and had comparable causes, however the French Revolution politically better outcomes, whereas the Latin American Revolution resulted in poverty and lost territory.
Both France and the U.S. had a revolution and became a separate country. One of the reasons for both why the had a revolution was that they were both ruled by a monarchy and both were influenced by enlistment ideas also both of the revolutions were set in the late 1700s. Another similarity between the U.S. and France is that they both elect their political leaders. Both France and the U.S. both have a legislative, executive, and a judicial branch and both presidents
The French Revolution was one of the most significant wars that changed France’s history. The Revolution started in 1789 and ended in 1799 and was mainly initiated by the conditions affecting the Third Estate. Louis XVI was predominately the king during this time period but little did he know that an uprising among the peasants was happening. The French Revolution was caused by the Enlightenment ideas because of the American Revolution, the knowledge of rights, and the questioning of France’s government. The American Revolution was basically the “fire” that ignited the change the Third Estate wanted to see in their country.
Comparative Essay The late 18th and 19th century brought about the French and Haitian Revolutions. Both revolutions were connected to each other because of the link between France and Haiti, known then as St Domingue. However, there were also differences as far as political, economic and social causes were concerned. One of the political causes of the French revolution was the weak monarchy.
In conclusion, to answer the question“ How was the French Revolution similar and or different with the Mexican Revolution?” I think there are two approaches to show how they are different, or similar. The two different events both had a similar reason why they fought, which included to gain their independence and or to establish a more modern government. While there are distinctions between the two events, includes how they approached the war or what caused the war, and the aftermath. So, therefore, How was the French Revolution similar and or different with the Mexican Revolution, the French had increased the power of the natural state but didn 't solve class inequalities.
An event the American Revolution is similar to is the Arab Spring which occurred in the Middle East during 2010. Although in widely different times and location, the American Revolution and the Arab Spring have many aspects in common. First, there was the similar cause of an oppressive government with the Middle East containing multiple dictatorships. Also, the Arab Spring had a similar short term effect because democracy was introduced into the region which was a new structure for the people. However, the long term effects have yet to fully play out and really change the region.
When it comes to the outcomes of each it seems as if the French Revolution created more change than the English Civil War did. Although they did have similarities and differences; it seems as if their results differ more than they compare. They both seem to have common results but the results are definitely different when it comes to how it affected their countries. Three of their major results
The main difference between the American and French Revoultion was that one successfully converted to a democratic government and one did not. The French Revolution was not successful in forming a democratic government due to France’s history of a monarchy, economic issues and divison among its’ people. Unlike America, France had a long history of sole rulers and dictatorship which made the change to a democratic government much more difficult and ultimately impossible. America’s motto of “all men are created equal” (Doc A) was the complete opposite of France’s dividing estate class system. The third estate consisted of peasents, common people and the bourgeoisie, the second estate belonged to the Nobles, and the first was the home to the Clergy.
Overall, the Haitian Revolution is a contrast to the French Revolution because the main reasons and goals of the people were different. In Haiti, the news of American Independence motivated slaves to unite and fight for equality from European nations. Meanwhile in France, the radicals hoped that by overthrowing the monarchy, a new assembly would be created and France would become a republic. The American and French Revolution are both remembered in history as two major changes that would shape what we know today. Every child learns of the American Revolution at least once in their lives. Both these revolutions had the similar cause, effects, and stages that resulted or started them. Just like in every warring country, it is inevitable that there will be some change that occurs whether it be for the better or for worse. Although the American and French revolutions were very similar in the actions, there were many differences leading them into ultimately different paths and states of rest.
While enlightenment was the same revolution in thinking around the world, the ideas it brought were not always the same. For example, French enlightenment had different approaches to thinking than American enlightenment. Because of this, the two countries new governments were run on different ideologies. Both the French and American Revolutions were inspired by liberty, equality, and the rights of the people. However, the views of enlightenment of the two revolutions ultimately led to different ideologies in the two countries.
The American and the French revolutions were more similar than different. One similarity being is that both the Americans and French wanted to escape the rule of their King. Also, both revolutions were started by an uprising of people against unfair taxation by the monarchy. American colonists protested against taxation passed by the English Parliament without any representation in that body.
The first way that the French Revolution in the late 1700s and the Russian Revolution in the early 1900s compare is their government. During their times, they both had weak leaders that did not desire to rule, this was King Louis XVI of France and Czar Nicholas II of Russia. Both Royal families were eventually executed or assassinated. Also, both countries around the time of their revolutions were affected by a war in a way, the American Revolution for France and World War I for Russia. Both tried new governments, for France this was democracy and for Russia it was communism.
