The Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism are both periods in history where many lives changed. The point is to show the comparisons and contrasting parts through both catastrophes. There are also similarities to both parts and there is also a lesson to be learned. The easiest way to gain control of the population is to carry out acts of terror. These accusations were then turned into good people that happened to not give others what they wanted and wrong people started to accuse them. This then changed to being the Salem Witch Trials. A reverend and several men in the court came to Salem to help with this problem in their community. Their acts brought many to being wrongly accused and the evidence towards them was not good enough to hang them. This power and control ended many lives and brought destruction within one’s village. The McCarthyism incident occurred in the 1950s. This is the time when Arthur Miller constructed The Crucible to relate what was happening during that time. U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy was the man who started it all and was the one to accuse many of being communist sympathizers. During the period, Russia was feared among several other countries, because communism seemed to be on the rise. People feared communism and what would happen if they would have to go to war and fight against it. While thoughts were spreading, Senator McCarthy thought to ask the question to others in power and in jobs that had many connections; television, radio and other political positions, if they were communists
