The room was empty and abandoned objects scattered all around but all that was left was a diary full of details that would soon fill the missing puzzle piece to the Holocaust. In The Diary of Anne Frank: A Play by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich, they use the elements of drama to show the conflicts in the story and they do this, by using their backgrounds, soliloquies, and sound effects to show drama. The first element of the drama is the background, The authors Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich by showing how they are still in hiding even though everyone is acting normal. On pg. 21 it says”Mr. Frank motions for the children to be quiet, tiptoes to the window in the rear wall and peers down.” Which shows how they are still always in danger because of their environment. Another example of this is when Mr. Frank says” I don’t want you ever to go beyond that door” (pg.20). To Anne, this shows her what kind of situation she really is in. And have them walk all over me, the way they do her? No, thanks!”(pg.527). This shows how dialogue can help reveal emotion, next the authors use Anne's thoughts to convey drama. In the text it says ”She rushes off into her room and throws herself down on the settee, stifling her sobs. Mrs. Frank sighs and starts toward the stove.”(pg.527). This also suggests that Anne is having a conflict with Margot. Lastly, on pg. 531 it says ”She turns away, in tears. Mrs. Frank motions to Margot to comfort her.
