One day Miles gets stuck in an unfortunate situation with Dr. Hyde, who discovers him gazing out a window amid class. Despite the fact that Miles was pondering religion, however quite recently turning away, Dr. Hyde shows him out of the room. Alaska stands up and leaves with him. She tells Dr. Hyde that he is being unjustifiable, however he says that they can either take after his guidelines or fall flat. In Florida, Miles was dependably the goody two shoes, and getting kicked out of class upsets him more than being tossed in the lake. Alaska is furious at the Colonel and Takumi for not leaving with her and Miles, but rather when they at long last escape class, the four stroll down to "the Smoking Hole" in the woods behind the school. At that point Dr. Hyde strolls in, and the Colonel understands that Alaska isn't in the gym. The Eagle inquires as to whether everybody is available and Miles yells again and again that they have to sit tight for Alaska. The Eagle begins crying, and Miles declines to accept what he now suspects has happened. The Eagle at long last tells everybody that overnight, Alaska died in a car crash. The room falls quiet. Miles comes up short on the gym to hurl and is overpowered with blame for letting her head out. In the end he concludes that she isn't in reality dead and is simply playing a trick on everybody. He strolls back to the gym and everybody is in all out hopelessness. The Colonel lies on the grandstands shouting as loud as possible, "I'm so sorry." Madame O'Malley, the French instructor, discloses to him that he doesn't have anything to be sorry for. Miles tells the Hawk that Alaska is simply playing a trick on everybody. The Eagle discloses to him that he saw her body. She was driving on I-65, where a truck had jackknifed over the interstate. A police cruiser pulled up to the scene and Alaska, plastered, ran straight into his auto and passed on in a split second.
