This is yet another adaptation of the book The Great Gatsby written in the 1920s. The Great Gatsby is universally excepted as one of the best American novels of all time, due to the fact that it explores the American dream after WWI and demonstrates the ideal way of life in the 1920s. But the question remains, is this film going to stay faithful to the original book?
When eager author Nick Carraway, played by Tobey Maguire, becomes mesmerized by the incredible life of his mysterious new neighbor Jay Gatsby, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, he enters into Gatsby’s circle of high standing friends. Their extravagant experiences inspire Nick to write his own story of hypocrisy, sacrifice, and power tangled up in the American dream. Scotts Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby. They take a bold and risky contemporary risk with the 1920s music, featuring jay Z, Kayne West, and Lana Del Ray, which adds a great effect that changes casual scenes into memorial moments. The typical 1920s dance party music takes a turn for contemporary rap and pop, which was a brilliant choice on the director’s part. The special effects are seen all throughout the movie. They are extravagant and don’t go unnoticed. Luhrman strategically places special effects to enhance the almost dream-like film while attempting to keep a realistic feel at times. While he doesn’t disrespect the material, the CGI in this movie was almost overboard. Yes, Luhrman pulls you into a day dreamy state but I would have liked a little more focus on the raw human emotion and characters at the central part of this story. This movie might not be too focused on the actors but the special effects themselves are astonishingly
