The story “Stargirl,” by Jerry Spinelli is about a high school who has always been homeschooled and starts to attend Mica high school. When she first gets to the school everyone likes her and embraces her differences. About halfway through the school year everyone turns on her. She gets made fun of and feels like nobody is there for her. When Stargirl first started going to Mica she met a boy named Leo who became her best friend. Then, Leo fell in love with Stargirl and their relationship blossomed. Stargirl and Leo ran into a problem; Leo had to choose between her and his friends. Another main character is Archie. He is an older man whose house is surrounded by rocks and fossils and he has a 30 ft tall cactus in his backyard. Archie was a good character because he gave Stargirl and Leo wisdom and confidence. I now realize that everyone being different is a good thing because if everyone was the same our world would be boring. We need people like Stargirl to change the way people look at differences. My favorite part in the book is where Stargirl sings “Happy Birthday” and uses her ukelele in the lunchroom. This was my favorite part because it embraced her differences and made he stand out. She wasnt afraid to do things like these and be judged by other people. Although this book was good I do have a least favorite part. My least favorite part is when stargirl receives the porcupine necktie because it confused me a little. When I first opened the book and read that I felt like putting the book down because it was confusing and different. I think the author did this for a reason though, what I just described “ I felt like putting the book down because it was confusing and weird.” is a lot like how people felt about
