The periods of feudalism in both Europe and Japan had their ups and downs. In Japan, feudalism seemed to have a greater negative affect on its culture. Feudalism started in Japan for a more destructive reason than it had it Europe. The isolation of Japan caused feudalism to last longer and the development to slow. Also, the Japanese concept of bushido eventually led to the loss of many lives.
Feudalism did not seem to work for the same purpose in Japan as it did in Europe. Yes, they were both trading land for protection, but in Japan’s case, it was protection from their own people fighting for power. As where in Europe’s case, they needed protection from other countries. The fighting among themselves was destructive more than anything else.
