There are many major differences in the ideologies of those that we call Liberals and Conservatives, as well as Moderates. Liberalism is a philosophy based on the rights of the individual, liberty, and consent of the governed, political equality, right to private property and equality before the law. It is frequently cited as the dominant ideology of modern history. (“Liberalism”) Conservatism is cultural, social, and political philosophy and ideology that seeks to promote and preserve traditional institutions, customs, and values. (de Tocqueville) Those who hold beliefs between liberalism and conservatism or a mix of beliefs are called moderates. They believe the role of government should be to provide people with the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals. Their policies are based on empowerment of the individual to solve problems, unlike liberals who feel that it is the job of the government to solve issues. (“Conservative vs. Liberal Beliefs”) Liberals and Conservatives have many issues they disagree on, for example: Abortion. Liberals feel that it is the right of the woman to decide what happens to her body. The argument in the situation of a woman being pregnant between a liberal and a conservative may be that a “fetus” is not a human life. With a liberal’s beliefs, they feel that a fetus does not have separate individual rights and that the government should provide taxpayer funded abortions for women who cannot afford them. Although the decision to have an abortion is a personal choice of a woman regarding her own body, liberals feel that the government must protect this right. They may or may not agree to certain issues or beliefs between liberals and conservatives. They occupy a central position on the left-right political spectrum or a mix of beliefs on the political scale. One example of a moderate may be that they agree to a woman’s right to abortion like a liberal, however, they may also agree with a conservative that abortions should not be funded by tax-payers or that the unborn “fetus” is a living human being like conservatives. (“Political moderate”) I consider myself Liberal, however, I feel that I’m Moderate in a sense because I agree with some of the conservatives’ views and I don’t agree with everything that liberals believe in, especially when it involves women’s rights and choices. For example, I agree with women’s rights and the fact that it is their choice to make decisions with their bodies, but I disagree with the government funding that decision because it is a personal choice. Although I can agree with most of the views of the Liberals, I feel that the Conservatives have valid points in their reasonings. As I measure my own views and beliefs, I fall into the category of a Liberal because of the issues that citizens
