Love exists and is expressed in many different ways. In Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream, he demonstrates the various types of love through his characters. These characters include Lysander, Demetrius, Helena, Hermia, and Egeus. Forced love, parental love, and friendship love, are all types one will witness in this play. To begin, forced love is one of the most prevalent types in this play. It is seen most when Helena tries her best to force Demetrius to to love her, but he is in love with Hermia, therefore turning her down. Helena tells Demetrius “...the more you beat me I will fawn on you” (Shakespear 2.1). This shows that love cannot be forced because that means it’s not real.
