Diluted Red Lab Report

This experiment was useful in gaining an understanding of spectrophotometric techniques and its convenience in determining the concentrations of the diluted red (degassed) soft drink. In the accompanying section, the data acquired is talked about from the qualitative view point, particular questions posted in the laboratory manual are addressed, and general trends and patterns are presented. The first experiment yielded wavelength and absorbance (OD) readings as shown in Table 1(see above Table 1). These results were plotted in Figure1 (see above Figure 1). Figure 1 shows the absorbance increasing as the wavelength is increased until approximately 520nm is reached; from this point, the absorbance pattern decreases rapidly. Therefore the peak wavelength for red (degassed) soft drink is approximately 520nm. Using the peak wavelength, and the standard solutions of undiluted 50% red (degassed) soft drink, Table 2(see above Table 2) and its …show more content…

The % Error for sample 3 was above the expected value. Which is an atypical results at this stage. However, any doubts with respect to the outcomes may be followed to a couple of components of the experiment loan themselves to conceivable slip. The error is likely is in the serial dilution of red (degassed) soft drink. In spite of the fact that there is an assumption that the pipetting was done precisely, comparative space for human error is conceivable. Likewise, an absence of accuracy may emerge from the way that the experiment consisted of many volumetric transfers of solutions from one container to another. While using the cuvettes bubbles, turbidity, fingerprints, condensation on or inside the cuvettes will also diminish the accuracy of readings. Finally, reading the measured absorbed values from the meter is liable to a certain measure of individual judgement and experience and results could therefore vary from the +/-10% expected
