Throughout Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, a wide variety of decisions are made that cause a wide variety of different events. By the end of the play, the main characters for whom the play is named are dead. The direct causes of death are simple, Romeo a poison and Juliet a dagger, though the sole person to blame for their deaths is not quite as straightforward. All throughout the play, Friar Lawrence assists Romeo and Juliet with their romance and their plans for marriage. He seems to have good intentions, he mostly wants to end the feud between the lovers’ families. This is not a bad thing, but the way he goes about achieving it is not the most effective.
