Nea and Sourdi run their family restaurant while their Ma is away for a while. Sourdi gets teased by one of the customers. “He called her his China doll and his friends rooted for him”(pg.82) Judging by the title of the story and the introduction, Sourdi might get involved in some trouble with these men in the restaurant because there is no adult around to protect them. Nea was eleven years old at the time. Nea gets really angry and rushed to the kitchen, she get a sharp knife and stabs the guy’s sleeve. “Get away from my sister”(pg.83) Sourdi seems to be very calm and polite about telling the man to let her go, but Nea is very quick to react and all about getting things her way. The uncle introduced Mr.Chhay to Ma and proposed that Sourdi be married to him because he is financially stable. I can totally relate to this because my parents were arranged married and they expect the same for me as well. They believe that love marriages end way before they even start.
