In America, we place importance on life after secondary school. Most times this means higher education (college or university) or entering the workforce. When students choose the route of attending a university, one of the factors that are taken into consideration, is that of cost of attendance. Higher education for a four year degree is not the cheapest thing, especially when it is a college or university that is among the top institutes for higher learning. The University of Oklahoma is no exception to this. Recently, the University of Oklahoma (in 2013) established what is called Flat-Rate tuition. This room includes an oval conference table and eight leather rolling chairs that surround it. There is a window that you can see out of once you walk into the room. The window has a gate that can roll down in case of an emergency. There's a microwave and a sink located along the wall to the right as soon as you walk in. There is a 52" flat screen television mounted on the wall directly above the conference table. The meeting was set to begin at 3:30 pm. The committee members began to enter the room around 3:25 pm. The committee chair sat herself at the head of the table and the rest of the committee members sat themselves at random around the rest of the table. One of the committee members strategically sat herself to the left of the committee. This member had to have access to an outlet because she had a laptop that was used for research during the meeting. Once all of the committee members arrived, the door to the break room was closed so that no distractions could enter during the meeting. There were only five committee members, including myself, in attendance at this meeting. I sat to the right of the Chair and I had someone to my right as well. This guided her decision to vote to approve the student's appeal. Another committee member is a current student at the University of Oklahoma. He is a senior about to graduate in May. His vote and opinion is based upon his experience as a student and comes from a place that "everyone struggles, she can figure it out". At first he wanted to venture towards denying her petition. The committee member that has the laptop for research, she was on the fence as well. As she conducted her research, she felt that the student's story was not adding up. She felt, because the student was able to spend so much time jumping from department to department to converse with certain individuals, that she may be able to make time to attend class in the summer time. The group agreed this is definitely easier for her to do during the school year when her children are in
