In the Philadelphia movie, it mainly concentrates about discriminations and prejudice on the homosexuals. Andy Beckett is a good hard working lawyer who is a homosexual. After a big break-out that had spread, Andy got infected, known as AIDs. People believed it started from the homosexuals. Andy was one of the best working lawyer at the biggest law firm, after being fired from “misplacing” an important document, he files a lawsuit for unjustifiable reasons. Andy did not tell his boss about his illness due to fear of discrimination. Knowing that they would look down on him base on his preference of sex and health, he did not tell his boss. Today in society people would discriminate others for being a certain race, gender, status, or health condition. Such as Donald Trump, he is running for president and dislikes the Hispanics race for undefined reasons. These two examples compares how the past and moderate society are still similar. People who were prejudice against the homo’s increased their dislike for the homosexuals more after the big breakout. Others were scared of getting AIDs and HIV because of health reasons. For example, people who haves AIDS are more likely to get sick than others. The people around fear them more because they think that they might get the disease by physical contact. In general, the society, they prejudice the homo’s and AIDs people just because of the one character they do not like. Back then they only had one mindset of how people got AIDS and didn’t want to be part of them at all. Even now, though we understand how the disease works, people still criticize against
