The serious impact of discrimination on people’s psychology
Discrimination is still an issue in countries all over the world. People still gets discriminated in our society today for the way they look, their religious views and so on. As a result of being discriminated, people might suffered in many ways. In The Kite Runner, a meaningful novel which written by Khaled Hosseini. The grievous injury in psychological way of being discriminated are significantly shown on some characters in the novel. Compare to the injury physically, it seems that the damage in people’s mind is more serious. People who are directed against by discrimination becomes more and more depression and less self-esteem. Actually, Ali has lived under the discrimination in his entire life and as a result of what he had experienced, his characteristics changes dramatically from a positive attitude to a passive way. In addition, Ali’s experience not only affects himself but also his son Hassan as well. Hassan is the second character who could strongly show that the mentally damage is irreversible and serious. Things that happened or saw by Hassan makes him also becomes speechless and depressive. He is directed against by the majority group and as a consequence of that , he suffered from the brutal abuse and ridicule a lot. The third person who is also suffered from serious discrimination and had a great change in his character is Sohrab, son of Hassan. There are mountains of discrimination against Sohrab due to his race and his father. Sohrab experienced much incredible sexual abuse and contempt as a ramification. For this reason, just as his Grandfather and father, Sohrab also has something different in his characteristics.As mentioned before, people’s characteristics are easy to change and become unsociable, sensitive and passive to some extent if they have experienced something terrible for a very long time.
