There are a lot of lessons I’ve learned after watching this movie. I can tell how much discrimination the black people are experiencing even now, most especially if they are women. In addition to that, the movie encouraged me as a viewer to embrace challenges, support one another, and have faith in our own abilities by serving as strong reminders of the determination, toughness, and unity as exhibited by the extraordinary women at NASA. The movie, as well as the characters who are based on real people, showcase the hardships, victories, and contributions made by African-American women employed by NASA during the Space Race, emphasizing their fortitude, tenacity, and ground-breaking accomplishments in the face of hardship. Her character made me realize that we need to speak up in situations where everything seems so wrong. In the movie, after she spoke up being separated from the team for being a colored woman, including the long distance she had to walk to use the colored restroom to relieve herself, her colleagues went silent and moved by what she said. That part of the movie touched me and made me cry without realizing it. It was also the reason why Mr. Al Harrison, who was the head of the Space Task Group at Langley Research Center, urged the government to break the NASA's "colored" restroom sign, which ended race-based bathroom segregation. Using a crowbar, he destroyed the sign and announced that NASA will no longer have separate restrooms.
