II. Describe the following climate-related aspects of the classroom: The environment of the classroom is controlled to make it the most comfortable to the students. The temperature is set to be slightly above seventy degrees Fahrenheit as to keep the room cooler. This cooler classroom temperature suits the student’s fine as it keeps them calm. The ventilation in the classroom is great due to its size and the fact that it is a stand-alone classroom; therefore, it has its own air conditioning unit. The lighting in the classroom is much different than from a normal classroom as this classroom is a special education classroom for students with autism. The teacher has her own office within her classroom. During the day when her students are present, the door is kept closed so that students cannot access that room. Before and after school when the students are not there the door is left open so that the teacher has easy access to the room. If during the day, the teacher needs to use her computer she will leave the classroom in the care of one of the paraprofessionals. The teacher, however, has access to all of the student’s desk. The way that the room is configured she can check on all of the students during the day if they are at a desk and is able to be with each one. There are both group desks and individual desks for the student. Her ability to access all the student’s desks makes it possible for her to help all students when they need help during class time. During group work students can access other students desks because they are grouped together, in contrast, the students individual desk are pushed just far enough apart that other students cannot reach them. My drawing does not do this classroom justice. It is much more open in person than it seems in the picture. Students with limited mobility would be able to access many parts of the classroom. There are a few places in the classroom that these students would not be able to access such as the cooldown areas. The opening to these areas are very small and I cannot see a wheelchair or walker fitting through the
