For starters, Rosa seated herself in the front of the public bus where only white people were allowed to sit. Disobedience has paved the way for many of the most important decisions in our history as the United States of America. In some instances, the act of disobedience resulted in a major change in history itself. A widely known example would be the events leading towards the American Revolution, where a simple band of colonists took on the entirety of the British army. The British Parliament placed many taxes, including the Stamp Act, Tea Act, and many other significant taxes on the citizens living in the city of Boston.
Disobedience can be defined as failure or refusal to obey rules or someone in authority. Disobedience can also be defined as causing a disarray within society and causing a shift in social normals to more perfectly suit the conditions of a community at a given time, in the sense that it promotes the questions of poor social norms, and the change in our mortal standards and by the progressive though of one’s own mind. Oscar Wilde argues that it can allow society to progress and to allow science about different or certain topics to be broken or misplaced, and the way that it counter our social norms instead of disobedience leading to be a negative human and societal trait in our very way of life. Rosa Parks refusing to give her seat on a bus to a white person was a clear expression of individualism. By refusing to comply with unjust laws that caused segregation and discrimination among people, Parks was standing up for her own rights and dignity as an individual. She was not willing to accept the status quo and instead chose to challenge the system. Parks' actions demonstrated the power of the individual to cause change by inspiring others to do the same. Her decision to take a stand was not just a personal choice; it was inspired by a movement and made people consider change in the need for civil rights and equality in America.
One hundred years later people were still struggling with unity among the races. Whites only signs were plastered all over towns. People were segregated due skin color, but there were people like Rosa Parks who stood for what they believed in. After a long day Rosa was tired, her feet hurt and she was fed up with sitting in the back, so she did what no one had done, she sat in the whites only section. Because it was the 1960’s this caused an outrage, Rosa was arrested.
Disobedience is an essential characteristic in this world because without it, no social progress is made. Disobedience can be viewed in a very complex manner because it is in some cases, an unhonorable and disgraceful characteristic, however, Wilde describes disobedience as an honorable attribute for someone to have when social progress is made.. Disobedience should not only be compelled, it should be mandatory. According to Wilde, disobedience is a beneficial characteristic for a person to have, a necessary evil, without it social progression cannot occur. “Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man’s original virtue.”
Irish author Oscar Wilde claimed that disobedience is a valuable human trait, and that it promotes social progress; thus, without it, social progress would not be made. Civil disobedience is to social progress as hard work is to academic success. With hard work comes academic success, and with civil disobedience comes social progress. Though some see disobedience as a negative trait, it is what has promoted social progress in history by challenging social standards and requiring new social rules to be made. Civil disobedience challenges social standards by expanding views on the current guidelines.
Oscar Wilde claims that disobedience promotes social progress during 1891. Throughout history and even modern ages, we have seen such things happen. Where people rebel against something specifically and it causes change, but in a way, it could make it worse. I agree with the fact that rebelling against something such as a law and protesting does, in fact, increase our social progress, but I also disagree because sometimes, it could make a situation worse than it already is. Yes, if you do protest and ask for a change, they could give you one; or they could create stricter laws and completely ignore your protests against change.
To disobey someone is to disregard them and refuse their authority, and this in generally seen as a bad thing. People are told to listen and obey to the higher ups to avoid punishment. But, throughout history disobedience has brought about much needed change. Disobedience is often necessary to promote change and we can see this throughout America's history. From the American revolution in 1775 to the slave rebellions in the 19th century to the civil rights movement in 1954.
Disobedience, it is our inner braveness that stands up for our battles. Disobedience, it is what shapes our society and how we are as people. All it takes is a brave man to let his thoughts out and into our complex world. Are we going to tolerate being treated as slaves? Are we going to let people create our own destiny to our future?
Throughout all of time, people have needed to live according to their own agendas. Being forced to live a certain way has only caused trouble. That is why Henry David Thoreau supported civil disobedience to help people live according to their own beliefs. In the essay “On Civil Disobedience” by Henry David Thoreau, the author defined and explained the effect of civil disobedience. Thoreau defined it as, civil disobedience is any peaceful action that demonstrates the disagreement of a person or persons with their government.
Because Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man; she started a revolution and the fight for equal rights for black people. According to the author, "after Parks refused to move, she was arrested and fined $10. The chain of events triggered by her arrest changed the United States," (ushistory.org). When she was fined, a lot of events had stirred up. Her arrest had made a lot of the African community mad.
Also Rosa was a civil right activist before her arrest. The bus driver how Parks had prior encounter with was James Blake he also demanded that she vacate her seat. But the other problem is that she was not sitting in the only white people area she was sitting in the middle of the bus in those days most people rode in cars or walked and so when Rosa boycotted the bus she was not sitting there because her feet were tired. Weeks after her arrest Parks was jailed a second time for her role in the boycott.
