The controversies around Dissociative identify disorder is the socio-cognitive etiology model. The textbook describes this model as individuals learn to act out various social roles by being exposed to media reports regarding DID, therapist’s suggestions, and other cultural influences (Kring et al., 2014, pg. 232). I believe that this model plays role in people developing DID. The reason that I think that is because the text say this is just one of the ways, it does not say it is the only way. I can understand how a person can develop DID after being expose to DID. Lets take a look at children, often times children act out what they see on TV. I think that anyone who thinks they have this disorder should go see a clinical profession immediately. After reading the text and watching the video I want to know more about this disorder. It’s crazy how a person can just change o fast. In the video Multiple personality disorder a police officer had a tortured child for one of his personality. Having this disorder is scary, a police officer carried a gun, this can quickly escalate to this tortured child trying to get revenge on someone and they have tool to do it (Firearm). I believe that this disorder is legit, DID is believed to have developed from traumatic events that occurred that the individual is trying to block from consciousness (Kring et. al., 2014, pg. 235). People want to escape their memories if the memory’s are negative. Most people will do anything to escape their memories, abuse drugs, occupy their time so they don’t have to be alone with their thoughts; the list goes on and on. I can see how a person will develop a personality to cope with the situation. In the video Multiple personality 14:24 one of the lady’s personality was a child, as a child she was abused. These two things show a direct connection. She is clearly suffering from being abused a child. I don’t see how anyone can think that this is not a legit
