The book I chose to read for our lit circle unit was “I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter” by Erika L. Sanchez. The story is an interesting read from start to finish full of twists and turns in the storyline. The main conflicts in the story are between Ama, Julia's mom, and Julia herself who always seem to be butting heads because they are coping with grief in different ways. Julia also has a major internal conflict with herself because she is self-conscious about her appearance around others and she at first blames herself for Olga’s death. The main theme of the book is the value of secrecy which can be seen once the story starts to unfold and the secrets that were once hidden rise to the surface.
My current favorite book is Faking Normal by Courtney Stevens. I personally love it because I can relate to her life struggles personally, and have been in her shoes more than once. I have read the book in one day, six hours to be exact. It is honestly the greatest book I have ever read, and would recommend it to anyone. Though there is some touchy subjects and moments in the book, I would still recommend it.
If someone asked me what this book is about and why I choose it I would say that, “this is a biography that describes a person who knows history and wants to make us better by writing books that inform us about the past so we can
In the summer of 2013, Texas senator Wendy Davis stood on her feet for thirteen hours (with no restroom breaks) to fight against a bill that would close numerous abortion clinics in Texas. During the filibuster, Davis presented an important question: “What purpose does this bill serve? And could it be, might it just be a desire to limit women's access to safe, healthy, legal, constitutionally-protected abortions in the state of Texas?” (Bassett, “Wendy Davis …”). For centuries women have struggled for adequate access to birth control and resorted to abhorrent means of abortion when they face unwanted pregnancies.
A teenage girl full of secrets and surrounded by the unknown and changing dramatically. In the book Embrace by Jessica Shirvington, there’s a girl about to turn 17 named Violet, she is strong headed, and a changing roller coaster due to major tragedies happening in her life. Many tragedies throughout the book had Violet changing who she was and how she acted. Violet has many different traits that set her aside from other characters, for example, she is a go-getter and strong headed which sets her aside from her best friend.
There is a hidden message behind every book. Especial one called Speak written by Laurie hales Anderson it involves a girl named Melinda Sordino. Sordino is a freshman at Merryweather high school. She has been an outcast ever since a senior party in summer where she got raped by a senior named Andy Evans. After the incident, she called the cops who shut down the party, which leads to many people hating her including her own friends.
This book is important enough to be on the list because although it is seen from one perspective it can relate to all teenagers in a sense. It is simply one person searching for who they are and they just do it in a different way. This book shows how one person is dealing with a problem that no matter who you are you will face, growing up. If you are looking for a book that shows what growing up is in a sense The Catcher In The Rye may not cover every encounter one might face but is good at showing what it takes to become an adult in the real
What’s your favorite book? Think about what draws you to it. Is it the wording that appeals to you, or is it the theme? Each person has different opinions on various pieces of writing depending on the personality of the reader. Equally so, the attitude of the writer and the time period it was written shows in the overall theme of the piece.
When a book resonates with a student, it can evoke strong emotions and create a deeper connection to the material. Many people have different opinions on what novels should include to be worthy of reading. In the article “The Importance of Diversity in Books”, it states that students like when they can see a reflection of themself in a book because it's like “they are being sent a message that their experience matters” (Prescott). When books are relatable, it allows students to feel what the characters are feeling, which in turn helps them to better understand and empathize with the characters and the situations they face. Also stated in the article “The Importance of Diversity in Books”, Dilloway states that reading about other cultures can remind students of “similarities and differences in the human experience” which can teach students how life is for another person.
Matched And Anthem Dystopian books are very popular among teenagers right now. Many people may ask why this is. Most likely, this is because teens feel connected to the characters and the way they go through things. you can tell alot about a person by the books they read. Slews of teens would agree that they can relate to the setting or character on a personal level.
While in both movies, Hunger Games and Divergent, share similar characteristics of a dystopian genre, they do not take on the same features as each other. This is usually because the structure is rigid and predictable although there can be certain differences. These differences and similarities could be their themes, setting or costumes that are used in the novel or film. In the Hunger Games and Divergent, the theme of rebellion is seen throughout the film.
“Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight the imagination, and life to everything.” -Plato. This quote shows the importance of books. If there were to be a world without books, the most important book I would keep would be Fahrenheit 451. This book would be important to keep because it would show us what would happen if books were outlawed.
Any decision in life all comes down to the choices made and the path favored, if chosen a different path than expected, it will transform their life. The choice chosen will define their life and it will tell them who they truly are. Divergent is a novel about a society split up into five factions, each faction is dedicated to a different virtue. Each citizen may choose between the faction their family belongs to or change it up, for the rest of their life. Through the novel Divergent, Veronica Roth explores the theme of survival in a dystopian society using the character Tris’ unique talents and intelligence to enable her to have to fight to survive and keep her identity a secret which causes everyone to believe that she can not be trusted and is dangerous.
So with this information in mind , these are some of the books that have influenced my character and therefore my literature journey . My favorite memories either include an animal a friend or me upside down in my bed ( my favorite reading spot ) with a good book . Reading was always a safe place away from boredom and annoying siblings . One of the books I remember the most was a broad purple heavy book called ‘ Bible Stories for Kids’ I remember how at first I only read it because it was the only book in my little “library” that I had not read ; A story that stands out among others is the story of Jesus walking on water ; I can distinctly remember the first time I read this story , I was in an airplane on my way to Reynosa , Tamaulipas to visit my family.
Heroes do not have to have superpowers and fight crime. Real heroes exist almost everywhere. There are many views on what constitutes a hero, but they all have one thing in common: they change the world for good. Heroism can be found in the unpaid lawyer who stands up to the government or in the teenager who perseveres through poverty and drugs to reach Harvard instead of becoming an addict or a drug dealer. A simple definition of a hero is someone resolute in making a change against the status quo.
