Divergent, a book by Veronica Roth, was published on 2011. The movie was released this year. Reading a book before watching the movie changes your whole perspective on it because you know what to expect. If you go to the theater you will have a good idea of how the storyline will go but what you don’t know is how the director and producers will interpret it. The book was good and I wasn’t sure what to expect from the movie, since the filmmakers always change or omit something from the book. Of course, there were many differences between film and book, but as a whole the movie stayed true to the novel. There were several differences in the movie that I could notice, and one of them was the character traits and personalities. Starting out with Tris, one of the differences was the number of fear landscapes. In the movie, five fear landscapes are shown but she has seven in total which are mentioned in the book. They were probably not included in the movie, because they weren’t that important for plot development. From a readers point of view almost every scene is important and contributes in some way. Some characters that were not included were Uriah, Myra, Drew, Shauna, Zeke, Marlene, and Lynn. One example of a scene that was removed is the bus scene in the Aptitude test. In the Aptitude test scene the choice changes from cheese to meat. Nevertheless, that part makes more sense in the movie because a dog would prefer meat over cheese. Other two scenes that are changed are: the one when Al, Drew, and Peter attempt to throw Tris off the chasm and the one when Natalie Prior rescues her daughter
