Around the time of three-hundred CE, the amount of power started to decrease for Rome, Italy. Lots of the Roman emperors and people were killed at this dreadful time. But what really caused this sudden downfall? Will we ever really know? I think the three main reasons are: Natural disasters, foreign invasions, and the city’s military problems.
Ancient Rome DBQ Many people argue that the culture of the Ancient Romans reflect that of the United States today. While there have been many advancements over the course of the years, a few basic principles still apply and can be seen in the United States today. Although there a few key differences that can be seen between the two cultures, it is important that one focuses on similarities to see how the United States has developed as a whole. Roman culture was similar to what the United States is today by the form of government and types of entertainment.
Why did you pick this topic? I selected this topic based upon my deep interest in Roman history and the controversial topic of religion. 2. 2.
Roman religion had two types of cults. The first religion was the native cult that supported what the state said and was supported by the state. The second was the imported oriental cultures. Religion is talked about in a positive way in the book. The roman women sought joy and release from religion and were included in festivities.
At the time, religion was a necessity for an empire to flourish because often times they created moral standards for people to follow not only in their daily lives, but also in their government. The Roman Empire had several religions before Christianity arose so in the beginning, the idea of a monotheistic religion was rejected. It was looked down upon because it was based on the idea of a “kingdom” of heaven. As it spread more and more, it started to become more widely accepted because of its philosophy of an orderly world and concern for social welfare. This led to most of Rome now believing in one socially interactive God.
Christianity offered a sense of community and shared identity that set its followers apart from traditional Roman society, thus posing a challenge to Roman traditions. Tacitus commented in Annals, "They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up." The views on Christianity throughout Rome changed immensely from the early years of the empire through the fourth century. For a while, Christians were looked at as a threat to many because of their belief in monotheism. Nero and his followers persecuted and punished the lower class and women who followed Christianity as well as use them as political scapegoats. As time went on, the tolerance for Christianity in Rome grew and Christianity gained acceptance. By the fourth century, Christianity was the official religion in Rome.

Importance of religion in Iran and its society is a crucial point in this graphic novel, Persepolis: A Story of a Childhood. It was mentioned in the novel how the society was corrupted when the Shah took charge. When the Shah took over, this lead to the many rebellions and demonstrations Iran had in order to keep the peoples freedom. The significance of women and how they were treated was also affected when everything changed during the 1980’s. In the early Roman Empire, when Claudius, Nero, Domitian, and Trajan were emperors, Christianity was banned and Christians were persecuted. Nevertheless, Christians found ways to spread Christianity, and many people converted. As trials occurred and the Empire lost good leaders, the people took security in Christianity and other religions. Christianity grew during the Roman Empire because Constantine helped create the Edict of Milan, Constantine had imperial favor toward The Church, and there was trade routes to spread Christianity to different areas.
