In George Orwell’s 1984, societal divisions are a main approach used by the Party to keep control of society and keep society in control. Social classes are divided into three classes. The Inner Party, the Outer Party, and the Proletaria. Each group has its own role and power in society. This ensures that they remain powerless and prevents them from unity. The Party enforces these divisions to endorse its dictatorship totalitarianism. The portrayal of these classes shows the manipulation of how any kind of freedom is taken from all citizens.
