In the United States there are two major parties involved in our political structure, Democrats and Republicans. Since 1836, these two parties have dominated the political scene and Democrats and Republicans have controlled Congress and the presidency since 1860. Now, within these two parties there are people with progressive and conservative ideologies. These ideologies are not confined to only one political party, but instead are largely based on the individual’s opinion and perspective. Generally speaking though, most conservatives are Republicans and most progressives are Democrats.
I believe that political parties were developed in the United States because they allow people to make decisions based on their beliefs. Both Hamilton and Jefferson were very great men but they wanted something different with the government. There are many reasons why political parties developed in our country. Hamilton and Jefferson have many differences between themselves.
A political party is two different organizations made up of people with different ideas for how the country should be run. They argue over “who is right”. People join political parties who have similar beliefs ( Doc 1). Jefferson and Hamilton created the first two political parties. Jefferson, the Democratic Republicans, and Hamilton, the Federalists, had very different ideas for the new nation.
What led to the rise of the political parties in America from 1789-1799? The period of time in which the revolutionary war, US bank arguments, and the US debt happened. Also with the rise of the political parties, this all, is sending the US into a national crisis.
The Gilded Age is recognized for its great progress economically and industrially, but it is also known for its new policies and the distinct political parties that came with it. If there is one period in History that people from today can relate to, is the Gilded Age. The politics during this Era were outstanding among other years. This was the era of corruption, the era where businessman had a bigger influence in the federal government, the era of taxes, control and trickery, the era of fraud and competition amongst parties like Democrats and Republicans.

The first-party system in the United States revolved around the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans, but by the 1820s, this system began to crumble.
The two main ice cream flavors are vanilla and chocolate. Oftentimes when you ask someone which they like better, they have a definite answer. Most people feel very strongly about which flavor is better and will argue with others about it. This is very similar to how political parties were in the United States. They were very controversial and caused lots of arguing and disagreement.
Party government believes that we need a “strong decisive government to solve social and economic problems”, but in order to do this we must be able to keep our government under control, as mentioned earlier (Hershey 301). All judges and justices share a commitment to uphold the Constitution making the United States a country governed by a rule of law. Roosevelt was no civil libertarian nor a crusader for racial justice but, his court-packing plan would not have endangered the Supreme Court 's legacy of ruling in favor of individual rights; the justices of his era showed little interest in protecting the rights that are actually protected by the Constitution (Milhiser Web). Studies over the last few decades have all come to the conclusion that court-packing is unconstitutional in nature, but what about interest groups? How can an interest groups influence courts as well?
Party strength is a measure of the ability of a party to get people to vote for its candidates. The post-World War II shift in party strength was part of a massive shift in policy over time. Scholars saw Republican politicians increasingly excel at getting elected at the local level (Lublin 2006), to offices in the state (Hayes and McKee 2007), and federal governments (Black and Black 2002, 1992; Shafer and Johnston 2006). It is difficult to see how the Republican Party would have become the majority in Congress in 1994 without the increased voting strength in the South. This marked a dramatic shift in national policy.
Thomas Jefferson once said. “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties”. The reason he said this was because he feared a strong central government. Then for some Americans, fears of a strong central government taking advantage came true. This is when the two political parties split.
The Populist Party and Gilded Age Politics The Gilded Age was the era in the United States from 1870 to 1890, called so because under the seemingly positive exterior were many problems the American people had to face. America was a proud example of democracy and on the surface seemed to be doing great. Underneath the positive exterior though was political corruption and corporations which seemed to be above the control of democracy, and had almost unlimited influence on politics.
Citizens of today’s society are convinced that they are divided tremendously. That the Republicans are so far right on the spectrum and that the Democrats are so far left on the spectrum that it is impossible for both parties to come to an agreement on any type of issue. If citizens dig deeper into the political world, they will find that there is not much of a difference between the two parties as they think. Mexico’s history of single party dominance was dependent on an alliance which had a major labor base. Since the creation of the PRI, many characteristics of the labor base and its political role has changed. The major turning point for change were the economic transformations Mexico experienced during the 1980’s. Before these changes the governing party from the top used a popular alliance as a mechanism to control labor (Collier 1992). Labor after the 1980’s became fragmented, feminized, and informalized.
A political party is an alliance of like-minded individuals who work together in an effort to win elections and control the government in their favor. They compete against each other for political power and the ability to put their ideologies into affect. There are two major parties in the United States, the Democrats and the Republicans. Their philosophies and political platforms are very different. Democrats believe in a strong federal government that has an active role in citizens lives while republicans believe in a small government that should have little to no role.
A democracy is a system of government that gives the people the power to govern. This can either be done directly, where citizens actively participate in the decision making of the country, or indirectly through elected representatives. The purpose of the democratic process is to protect the interests of all citizens of a country. In order to do so, every citizen in the country needs a medium through which to express his political opinion to defend his interests. This is the role of political parties.
