Why the Packers are an Elite Team The start of the 2015 NFL season has been anticipated all year. Since the end of last season, many fans, analysts, and teams have been counting down to the start of the regular season, proclaiming that this year is, “our year.” One of those team that has a gratifying chance of having “their year” is the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are one of the present day elite teams in the NFL.
The Last (Community) Team Standing If I told you that 360,760 people held 5 million shares of stock in a $1.95 billion franchise but never made a penny off their investment, you would likely not believe me. If I told you that this investment which paid nothing to investors was the backbone of one of the most storied teams in sports history, you would certainly believe I was not being honest. Yet, it is this truth that makes the story so sweet.
For the first time since 1990, the New York Giants are the reigning Super Bowl champions. Their thrilling victory over the 18-0 New England Patriots is already being called one of the greatest football games every played. Even casual football fans found themselves following the ups and downs of Big Blue last season. It all started when bookie Tim Mara bought the New York Giants in 1925 for a whopping $500 and then almost went bankrupt when they lost their first three games. Six years later, Mara passed team ownership to his sons Jack and Wellington.
The Green Packers look like they are going to go to the Super Bowl this year with one the best teams they have had in a few years. Aaron Rodgers looks to lead them to a lot of victories this season. The Packers beat the 49ers today 17 – 3. When thinking about the 49ers offense even without Frank Gore, they are still one of the best offensive teams in the league. The Packers will probably go close to 16 – 0 this season and will probably being going very far into the postseason.

On Monday February 6th, I had the privilege to attend the Kansas vs. Kansas State men’s basketball game which is an annual rivalry between two of the top programs in the state of Kansas. The Sunflower Showdown is a series of rivalry games throughout the year between Kansas and Kansas State in multiple sports such as football, basketball, and baseball. The two teams have a long history of hostility and bitterness and this night was just another one in a long line of classic games. Both teams entering the game were sitting in good contention for the NCAA tournament and Kansas held a No. 3 ranking in the polls, the game earlier in the year in Lawrence played a key role in the attitude the fans held coming into the game. Kansas won that game by
Alec Michaud Mr. Bergmann Sophomore Honors English II P6 10 October 2016 Lambeau Field, a Mark on History The ground below is rattling to the thunderous beat of rambunctious spectators with the anticipation of the battle that is set to be fought on this very field! The senseless chaos ceases as a loud roar erupts from the stands as the Green Bay Packers emerge from the tunnel. “With 13 super bowl rings and 53 postseason appearances it’s easy to say that Green Bay is one of the most dominant teams in the NFL” (Packers team Records). The iconic team has many notable attributes that set them apart, but one of the most recognizable is there historic stadium, Lambeau Field.
The 1936 Berlin Olympics is the most infamous sporting event in history. It was widely thought that Hitler and the Nazis would use this event as propaganda. “Jesse entered the 1936 Olympics, which were held in Nazi Germany amidst the belief by Hitler that the Games would support his belief that the German ‘Aryan’ people were the dominant race” (“Biography”). Despite this knowledge, the United States chose to participate in the Olympics. One of the most famous athletes of the Olympics was Jesse Owens.
Have you ever watched the Super Bowl on TV and see that there are so many people filling the seats at the stadium? Well, let me just tell you that for the record, the game was not a very packed area because it did not oversell. The officials were expecting more than 94,000. The actual game had about
“Huh…that’s interesting,” Zecker said. He was pondering a possibility that UMass has not yet explored in order to draw more people to games: selling alcohol. The lack of alcohol could be a major reason the typical UMass game at McGuirk or Mullins may be full of empty seats. The sale of alcohol on university grounds during sporting events is not illegal; according to USA Today, 32 college football stadiums and multipurpose arenas have recently become wet as of 2014.
