On the Edge of What? Doctor James Dobson was born on April 21, 1936. Dobson attended the University of Southern California and received a PhD in child development. While in college Dobson played tennis and eventually returned to coach the tennis team. He was a part of the staff at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles for seventeen years. Dobson is a phycologist in the state of California. In chapter two Dobson talks about what he calls the courtroom of the mind. He describes a scene in where we put ourselves on trial for not being perfect. Of course, in that courtroom we are found guilty by a jury of our peers. That chapter also talks about the way God made us, and he made us like sheep. Then Dobson continues to reference scriptures where humans are referred to as sheep. The scriptures he references are Psalm 100:3, Isaiah 53:6, Jeremiah 50:6, Ezekiel 34:11, Matthew 9:36, John 10:27, and 1 Peter 2:25. We are all sheep of the Lord’s pasture and he is our shepherd. Dobson tells the story of a kid whose father is leaving and promises to write, but he never talks to the kid again. Divorce not only hurts the man and woman involved, it also hurts the children. Divorce hurts the children more so than it hurts the adults because the children do not understand. Dobson tells us to wait and not be so quick to make the decision about getting married. He says one needs to pray about it before even thinking about marriage. Dobson tells us that there is only one person out there for us to spend the rest of our lives with. He says we need to be patient and wait to find the one. His main point is God made Eve for Adam, and that is one woman for one man for the rest of their lives.
