How would you like to travel through space to a planet inhabited only by robotic humans? How about traveling back to 1580 to stop a horde of vampiric beings from taking over Venice? The British television show Doctor Who has portrayed both of those scenarios, as well as many others. Due to the longevity of the show, paired with its gripping, ever-changing plot and it’s plethora of entertaining characters, Doctor Who will remain a prominent force in the science fiction genre of television for decades to come.
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television show that consists of the main character, known as The Doctor exploring all of time and space in his ‘living’ spaceship, the TARDIS, typically while being accompanied by his (usually female) companion. He does so simply so he has someone else to share his adventures with, and most of the time they turn out to be very helpful when trouble arises. However, the Doctor has noted numerous times that there is a downside to traveling with him. Aside from it being extremely dangerous, he warns that a companion cannot travel with him for an extended period of time, due to the fact that they age as a human does, and even though he looks human, Time Lords age much slower, as seen in one instance where the Doctor was stranded on a planet and aged the human equivalent of around 60 years in what was actually 800.
