Discrimination Still Exist? Discrimination: unfair and unequal treatment towards a certain group of people in regards to race, age, sexual orientation or gender. Does discrimination still exist today? Ridiculous how this may be or sound, but unfortunately, this is a problematic question others just do not seem to agree on. To narrow this controversial topic down, realistically, discrimination has been more of a problem when it comes to race. Others just do not seem to get that discrimination in regards to race, which is known as racism still exists. As a society, we should recognize that racism still exist, and change our attitudes and perspectives when it comes to skin color so we can move forward as one.
In “Racism not a Problem Anymore? Don't be Ridiculous, it's Still a Big Issue” by Jamelle Bouie, he argues how others such as the media talks about racism as if it was just an issue in the past but does not want to acknowledge the fact that it still exists today. In summary of his argument, he argues that most individuals believe that there has been improvement in the black community when it comes to achievements and success, which no doubt there is progress compared to racism back in the day. But he correlates his standpoint by using RNC's tweet about Rosa Parks' “bold stand in ending racism” (qtd. RNC). Disturbingly, that tweet spun out of control on twitter, it caused so many twitter users to join in using the hash-tag “#RacismEndedWhen”, “mocking the idea that racism is anywhere close to over” (Jamelle Bouie).
