1. After the hanging of a child, Elie hears someone say, “‘For God’s sake, where is God?’ And from within me, I heard a voice answer: ‘Where He is? This is where—hanging here from this gallows…’ That night, the soup tasted of corpses” (Wiesel 65). Though optimistic at first, Elie Wiesel, along with many others at the concentration camps, began to lose faith in God.
The book "Night" has an incredible author than knows how to create a sense of excitement, suspense, and climax. Elie Wiesel has been pushed to the brink of his faith. While being contained on concentration camps, he was forced to give up his parents and belongings. Seeing innocent men and women being killed without any of the graves having headstones or any prayers being said. Striped of his pride and joy Elie slowly loses his faith in god.
In Night, written by Elie Wiesel, the hanging of the little Dutchman pipel in chapter 4 symbolizes the death of faith in religion among Elie and other Jews who witnessed the act. In the plot, the young pipel was killed mercilessly by SS officers. During his execution, carried out alongside two other inmates, all found to be in possession of arms, onlookers were desperate for God to offer his supreme help. “Where is merciful God, where is He?” (64) and “For God’s sake, where is God?”

All throughout the novel, Eliezar and his father stay together through the unfortunate events occurring around them. For this father and son duo to stay together it takes an insurmountable amount of faith to pull through this tragedy together. In the book Night, it references faith or having faith many times. Having faith, which can be the theme of this book, is not only important to Eliezar but also to me.
