18.1% of Americans over 18 have an anxiety condition, and 6.7% have been diagnosed with MDD (Major Depression Disorder). Depression and anxiety issues continue to increase annually. Though there are many causes, a major cause is what our diet consists of. Taking a look at how what we put into our bodies affect how we feel and think about ourselves is a huge step to helping decrease the number of depressed and anxious people. Fast food affects us greatly psychologically with depression, hyperactivity, and anxiety. Depression is just one of many psychological effects caused by fast food. According to Elise Wile, “A fast food diet can cause depression for a number of reasons.” By ingesting fast food or junk food you are causing an imbalance of nutrients. The most common imbalance that causes depression is an imbalance of fatty acids. Deficiency of Thiamine can also lead to depression. By eating a healthy, balanced, and nutritious meal on a regular basis, while still mixing in variety, it can help improve energy levels.
