Lastly, Holden feeling the need to protect the world and save the next generation relates to the song “Demons,” by Imagine Dragons. They both exhibit the desire to prevent the world from conforming to the evils of the world. In the novel, Holden goes to Phoebe's school and notices that someone wrote “Fuck you” on the wall so he erased it thinking that he is doing right so the other kids don't see it and start asking questions. He notices it written again on the wall and gets frustrated. He then says, “It’s hopeless, anyway. If you had a million years to do it in, you couldn't rub out even half the “Fuck you” signs in the world. It's impossible.” (Salinger 222). This shows his frustration with the people in the world.
