Does music help me, specifically, in school? Personally, it does - but only in certain areas. Typically, I don’t listen to music while studying or working on my assignments and it’s very rare when I do. In fact, the only time that I had tested this was earlier this year when I was doing math homework. From what I can tell, it did help me but only to a slight degree. Furthermore on my earlier test on music, I did - unknowingly - what the scientists and researchers recommended! I mainly listened to, though it was varying musicians, classical music. It helped me focus more than I would any other genre, even though most classical music is not to my taste. Do Or Don’t: Studying While Listening To Music, paragraph 17, states that studying habits vary from person to person and that the music you’re listening to affects how the process goes - whether it is a higher grade than normal, or not at all. Given this information, I can only infer that listening to classical music aided me by causing me to focus and finish my homework in a much shorter time period. On the other hand, it did little to nothing in terms of memorization.
I hypothesize that if I were to be studying whilst listening to a genre of music that I enjoyed, I would memorize information better than I would if I continued listening to classical. There were some difficulties in focusing, and I even wandered off into other activities such as excessively using my phone whilst studying. However, it wasn’t as distracting as I had originally hypothesised it would be, and I was still able to pay attention in certain areas, being that of ones I had enjoyed learning beforehand. By the next day, I was taking the test and I had no troubles taking it. Not even where I struggled with studying, I was able to remember easily from the previous day. All in all, I’d prefer listening to classical music, as it appears as a much more safe
