In “Scratch Beginnings” Adam Shepard spent time to show that anyone can achieve the American Dream if they work hard, have a good gameplan, and keep a level head along the way. The American dream is the ability to go from nothing, but then over time end up with something. This something consists of gaining money, luxuries, and to gain an upward social mobility. Adam Shepard showed that it is not easy to achieve the American Dream, but he worked hard and proved that anyone can get where they want to be in life.
Throughout one’s lifetime, it is not common that a journey one has pursued becomes a nationwide phenomenon; although, for two men, that was exactly the case. Chris McCandless and Adam Shepard both embarked new, difficult, although different journeys. McCandless embarked on a journey in search of self reliance whilst Shepard left everything to prove that the American Dream is in fact alive and well. These adventurers set out on divergent journeys, but both had a strong impact on society and those they encountered along the way. Although both of these men were hardworking and successful in what they did, it is evident that Shepard’s selfless journey to motivate people to pursue the American Dream had a greater purpose.

More people suffer from homelessness than we realize. We often take for granted having a home to go to. I completely agree with Anna about her feelings on homelessness. I often see the homeless on the side of the road and I normally refer to them as homeless people but what I fail to realize is, that “homeless person” has a name, that “homeless guy” is a human being just like the rest of us longing for certainty, stability and privacy. Those “homeless people” are human beings without a home.
Many people do believe that the American Dream is alive while others say that it is dead and no one can achieve it, but it is in fact alive and people can achieve it if they set their mind to it. The American dream consists of a belief in America as the new Eden- a land of beauty, bounty, and unlimited promise; a feeling of optimism, created by ever expanding opportunity; and a confidence in the triumph of the individual.” Using this definition of the so called “American dream”, it seems to be a great representation of it at first, until you realize it includes everyone as the individual. From the beginning of the Civil war to the end of the War to End All Wars, the American Dream wasn’t possible due to the treatment of the Native Americans, the inequality between women and men, and the false promises given to the immigrants coming to our country in their time of need.
They do not get to come home and grab their favorite food right after school or work everyday like some of us do. They fight to survive everyday and no human being should have to live like an animal everybody should be able to have that feeling of love and happiness that we have when we come home. The homeless have it worse than we want to see but if we as human beings start seeing this and realizing that nobody should have to live like that I believe that we could give homeless people the life they deserve and give them a place they can go to and call home and finally feel that love and happiness again like all human beings
The American dream is a term used in a lot of ways. Although research has shown that American dream can’t be attainable by most people, closer examination shows that it can be attainable by the following reasons. As Daniel J. Mitchell stated in New York Times im January 1st, 2015 “The United States is not a perfect country, but the American Dream is still a reality.” By that he meant that even with America’s Grow rate, poverty, unemployment rate in the past years and still going Americans can still chase their American dreams If we look at the history and the definition it shows that infact it is possible to attain it.
Is the American Dream worth pursuing? I believe the American Dream is worth pursuing because if a person cannot dream of making their life better for themselves and their family, then a person will never better themselves or want to better themselves. Dreams are made to become true. A person can better themselves by getting a good education, a better job, and a better life for their family. Pursuing dreams will make a person better.
The American Dream is Attainable Dreaming of success, a bright future, or even hope? An idea placed in the Declaration of Independence, The American Dream has been a beacon of hope to many; however, does The American Dream really exist?
