1. How do these versions differ? These versions differ because while reading the prologue in the book, The Alchemist, the alchemist notices a book. While reading the book it is about the legend of Narcissus. The book then provides the reader with a small excerpt from the book the alchemist was now interested in. The author then gives the reader a piece of the alchemist's personal thoughts by writing, “What a lovely story.” The Ovid however is the story of what the alchemist was reading. The title of the passage is ‘Echo and Narcissus’ and tells a story about how Echo was cursed to repeat the last words and mock the voices and/or sounds made from animals and people.She was rejected by Narcissus and later died from heartbreak. 2. For example, during the journey The Threshold in the story is when Hera decides to punish Echo. Hera gives Echo the ability to copy words that she’s heard before and mock others, this punishment was the result of when Echo was talking bad about Hera. One of the challenges Echo faces is not being able to communicate with someone she was infatuated with. That person was Narcissus. Because Echo couldn’t communicate with Narcissus without mimicking his every word it was hard. Narcissus rejected Echo and later died. Leaving a flower at the place he died. Although this story follows and has elements from the Hero’s Journey, it doesn’t fit well because there is no hero or bad
