“Dogs are remarkable animals because they are uniquely sensitive to the cultural attributes of the people with whom they live. Not only are dogs a product of culture, but they also participate in the cultures of humans.” My symbolic object that I have chosen to discuss about is my dogs. To exactly describe them would be two little black and white bundles of joy. They are also full of energy and never seize to make me smile. They each have their own little personalities so it makes it hard not to fall in love with them. For me, my dogs are a big part of my life, as well as my family’s life. It is generally held that dogs came to America after crossing from Siberia to Alaska, and it was during this period that the domestication of dogs began in America. Dogs in the United States have significant popularity and status, which has been acknowledged by a number of observers. However, when dogs first started living with American people, the Native Americans knew that dogs had close kinship with wolves and coyotes. This is where dogs have learned to connect most with culture and nature, by their close kinship with wild dogs. Despite what the Native American people believed, dogs are treated as family members. In other cultures, people do not see dogs as the way we do in my culture. They might only use them to breed to make money, fight them to make money as well, or even have them as a meal. For me personally, thinking of using dogs in any other way besides to love them is beyond me. Describing myself as a member of this culture, may be a little obsessive. I would hands down, do anything for my dogs just as much as I would do for my biological family. Besides outside of my family, I have created a group of friends where we all have the same love for the same breed of dogs. Although we each have different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, we all come together with one kind of love in common.
