Dollar General Dollar General is growing for many different reasons, the main one being knowing what demographic to target. Dollar General is geared toward lower income families, specifically those in more rural areas. The Dollar General I visited is in the town I live in, Winnsboro. While Winnsboro has a Walmart which is the main place to shop in town for most, Dollar General is the more convenient store to visit at time so it gets plenty of business as well. It is the store you run in to when you need just a few things that aren’t worth the hassle of going into Walmart. Also many Dollar General stores, like the one in Mangham, are the only store around. The nearest Walmart to Mangham is in Rayville or Winnsboro, at least 15 minutes away for either store. Opening stores in rural locations such as this is just another reason Dollar General keeps customers coming in, it’s all about the convenience and accessibility for many customers. …show more content…

Such as a box of 10 trash bags, while at Walmart you could only buy a box of 30. This is just an example of their cheaper merchandise. Dollar General stores are also typically small and very stocked, it’s a store that never looks empty. It’s bright and inviting and has most necessary goods always in stock. Customers don’t leave disappointed or frustrated by out of stock items typically. Also another factor of the specific demographic is their use of technology. Many physical stores are losing out to online shopping, but the lower class and rural demographic of Dollar general consists of people who are likely not up to date with technology; they are not doing all or some even any of their shopping
