Domestic Violence is a critical issue negatively impacting women today. According to Futures Without Violence, more than three women a day on average are murdered by their spouses/significant others in the United States. While the United States faces death due to automobile accidents, muggings, rape, etc., domestic violence is still the leading cause of injury to women. According to the Advocates for Human Rights, in addition to the immediate injuries from the assault, battered women may suffer from chronic pain, gastrointestinal disorders, psychosomatic symptoms, and eating problems. Domestic violence is also associated with mental health problems such as anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression.
