Thud, the sound of her mothers body crashing against the bedroom wall. Her piercing scream resonates through the house. Her daughter hears everything, every slap, every punch, every moan and sits, huddled in the corner of her room just waiting for the abuse to stop. Domestic violence does not only effect the victim but also the people around them. What if this was you or your mother? What could you do to stop it?

Studies have shown that children exposed to domestic violence negatively impacted in reaching developmental milestones. Young children show signs of slowed process with talking, walking and socialisation and are reluctant to trust people around them. These children suffer higher levels of anxiety when leaving their parents and often show abnormal behaviour when at school including, shyness, violent behaviour and aggression towards others and difficulty 'fitting in'. Domestic violence must be recognised and reported. We should never turn a blind eye and leave victims to live in fear and danger. Since 2010, domestic violence has increased by a massive 70.2%, "being the biggest law and order challenge in Victoria." (Davey, 2015) Rosie Batty, Australian of the year, 2015, was mother to her only son, Luke. Rosie Batty and her son were victims of domestic violence by her ex-husband, Greg Anderson (Luke's father). Rosie Batty tried to shield Luke from his fathers aggressive behaviour however, on February 12, 2014, during an access visit, the relationship between Luke and his father changed dramatically. Anderson murdered his own son at this very moment, in view of the public and his mother. Rosie Batty was helpless to save her son. Since this time, she has campaigned strongly against domestic violence and is passionate in her fight to provide a safe environment for children exposed to domestic
