Joe Melvin Prof. Forte Contemporary Moral Issues May 26th, 2024 The article I chose to write my opinion about was “Why Abortion is Immoral” by Don Marquis. In his article, the argument is that abortion is, with rare exceptions, seriously immoral and comparable to the killing of an innocent adult human being. Premise 1: According to Don Marquis' "Why Abortion is Immoral," aborting a fetus deprives it of a "future like ours," making it morally equal to killing an innocent adult human being. The Marquis contends that the loss of the victim's potential experiences, pursuits, goals, and joys is what makes murder fundamentally evil. This idea, however, is flawed because it fails to consider that a fetus can have experiences, desires, or consciousness, and instead implies that it is of the same value and potential as an adult human.
