In my opinion, the documentary “Don’t Panic: The Truth about Population” by Hans Rosling, best conveyed the universal truth that sates that the inequity of the distribution of wealth and resources across the world causes poverty. The documentary does this by way of utilizing graphical and statistical data to show the distribution of wealth and resources in different countries and how this has and will evolve over the years, by making life connections using videos to show the struggle of lower class families in rural areas, and also by applying a possible solution to the issue of imbalanced world wealth. Firstly, Rosling provides video clippings to validate his view that the world faces many challenges because of rapid population growth and …show more content…
Even though some of the world’s continents like Asia and Africa are striving to bring themselves out of extreme poverty, there are still many countries that struggle with this issue. This may be seen as Africa, as presented on the graph, has the most people still facing extreme poverty. Secondly, Rosling further illustrates this through making life connections by giving insight into different walks of life and how it is that families in the rural areas of Africa and India are living. This allows the viewer to feel more connected to the issue because actually seeing people struggle to survive appeals to our basic human nature more effectively than when we view numbers and statistics. Observing the Khan family in Bangladesh and having them explain their way of life generates a conversational feel, creating a connection to the viewers as their mental questions become answered. This in turn allows them to attend adult lessons where they become better educated and thus function more effectively in society. These two families demonstrate the fact that the distribution of wealth across the world is imbalanced and inequitable, as people in rural areas are still fighting to escape the effects of poverty in order to achieve a better life. Lastly, Rosling shows that he is optimistic about the future as he presents a possible solution to eliminating poverty as the world population continues to increase. He does this by proposing the fact that the richest, as soon as possible, finds a way to set their use of energy and resources at a level that can be ultimately shared by all. It is through creating this balance in the world wherein, people can have access to relatively similar privileges needed in order to advance and create better lives, that the issue of poverty will be eliminated. This of course, is a plan for the future which needs immediate action in order to be achieved, because the world today has an unequal spread of wealth and
