His death is to be around 1501. There was information that Matteo worked in Florence with Antonio Rossellino in the late 1460’s. I did find a video that advise Civitale was a surgeon up to the age of 40, which is when he started sculpting. There was nothing profound about his death. No details except he died in October of 1501.
Donatello is a world renowned sculptor and artist that was born in Florence Italy in 1386 to a member of the Florentine Wool Combers Guild named Niccolo di Betto Bardi. With Donatello stacher as a son of a tradesman, he was able to be schooled at the home of a wealthy and influential Florentine family of bankers and art that are closely tied to the Medici family. Some of Donatello most famous works of statues are the bronze and marble David, Penitent Mary Magdalene, Saint George, and Equestrian Monument of Gattamelata. Donatello had a deep understanding of ornamentation and classic forms, that important knowledge would eventually change 15-century Italian art. Donatello is died on December 13, 1466 of natural causes.
Along with those artists came Leonardo da Vinci, the most significant Renaissance artist. Leonardo da Vinci was the most important Renaissance artist. In addition to the arts, da Vinci studied anatomy, botany, geology, zoology, hydraulics, aeronautics, physics, and architecture. Many of these skills were used in da Vinci’s artwork, which is part of what makes them so eye catching and intriguing. “Besides painting… Leonardo made scientific studies, dissections, observations, and research”(DBQ Document).
Throughout history, art has been very important. The biggest time for art, though, was the Renaissance. Many artists got their start in this era. Some popular artists include Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo Da Vinci. I believe that all of these people were amazing artists, but Leonardo was the most significant artist of his time.

Often times, it can be quite interesting to see the similarities and differences between them. An example of this is the sculpture of David, created by both Michelangelo and Donatello. Through studying both of these pieces, it is clear that Donatello’s David was historically correct, and that Michelangelo’s David was a beautiful masterpiece.
He was a brilliant sculptor; his many famous works include David, that resides in Florence, Italy at Galleria dell'Accademia, the Pieta in the Vatican, and a series he created called Dying Slaves which can be found at the Louvre. He wasn’t just a sculptor though, he was also very talented in architecture, poetry, and paintings. First, Lorenzo, born in 1449 also known as ‘magnificent Lorenzo’, impacted many people of his time period. He was especially known as a florentine metal worker.
They collaborated together from 1427 to 1438 and became partners to build several structures. Donatello had a reputation as one of the greatest sculptors and impacted the future of art. Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi most commonly known as “Donatello” was a prominent sculptor from the early renaissance, his father was Niccolo di Betto Bardi, who was a member of the Florentine Wool Combers Guild. He got the nickname “Donatello” from his friends and family. Being the son of a well known craftsman put him on the road to greatness from an early age. His education consisted of studying under the the Martellis, which were a wealthy and well known family of bankers and patrons from Florence that were also closely acquainted with the Medici family. This is also where a young Donatello most likely first started his artistic training from a local goldsmith.
Michelangelo once said, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free”. If Michelangelo actually did this with every sculptor could modern artist be doing the same thing to follow in his footsteps. Michelangelo’s artwork affects modern society by influencing many modern-day artists to become sculptors, painters and more. He also influenced types of art such as frescoes and ceiling paintings.
