In the story “The Scarlet Ibis” Doodle and the bird are the best representations of each other. One of the examples to show this is “He lay very awkwardly, with his head thrown far back, making his vermilion neck appear unusually long and slim” (Hurst 139). This exact quote from the story describes how they are alike because when they were both dead they had long and slim necks. The bird was also lying in an awkward position with its legs crossed and its “ clawlike feet were delicately curved at rest.” (Hurst 136). The second reason for my statement is, "’It lives in the tropics-South America to Florida. A storm must have brought it here.’" (Hurst 137). Although this quote doesn’t exactly come out and say the relationship between Doodle and the scarlet ibis, it has to be interpreted. Doodle came a long way from when he was born. People thought he would die and they made him a casket. Doodle then learned to walk, run, and talk. Doodle died because he was pushing himself too hard and couldn’t do it anymore. My last piece of evidence is, “He had been bleeding from the mouth, and his neck and the front of his shirt were stained a brilliant red. (Hurst 139)”. This relates Doodle to the scarlet ibis because both were a “brilliant red” (Hurst 139). This was probably close to the same color of red during the ibis’ and Doodles death.
