Doors In Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis

Doors represent a connection, possibly from two different rooms or even two different worlds. Although, Kafka takes on a deeper meaning to this type of connection, twisting it to a much darker truth of the reality of Gregor’s life. Throughout the whole story, the doors are always being written as closed and locked. One example being when Gregor first wakes up from his bed, his door is closed, keeping him physically separate from him and his family. This even becomes a habit, as Gregor thanks “his habitual precaution, born of much travel, of locking all door during the night,” ( 947). His family sees him as an outsider, provided that the only time Gregor is home, he is behind his door that he keeps locked. More or less, he’s only a source
