Whereas he deals with physically being locked up in prison and the other hand having his true main goal in a sense on a “hold” or even locked up for now. Dorothy Vaughan was an African-American mathematical engineer who was born on September 20, 1910 in Kansas City, Missouri. Although this being her hometown, she later moved to Morgantown, West Virginia where she would graduate from Beechurst high school in 1925. Four years following her graduation, Dorothy received a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University which was located in Ohio. In Chapters 10 and 11 of the book Creating Black Americans: African-American History and its meanings, 1619 to the present by Nell Irvin Painter, the author outlines the struggle for African Americans during the Great Depression, and even after during the New Deal era, then shows how they came out of it and became more successful and powerful during The Second World War. Alfredo Candelaria Composition and Interpretation of Literature Conversation with a character Sonny’s Blues Sonny from the short story by James Baldwin’s Sonny’s Blues is by far my exact opposite in terms of attitude, lifestyle and overall view on life. To better understand sunny I will spend the day with him and threw conversation and interaction better understand him as a person. I first met with sunny after he played a song on a piano at a local night club in Harlem.

In this story the conflict of responsibility takes place. A brother, who happens to be the narrator, blames his self for the events that takes place in his life, such as his brother sonny’s crack addiction. The Narrator feels responsible for his brother’s heroin addiction because he believed he shut his brother’s career goals down, felt as though he went against what his mother asked him to do, and because he chose not to believe that the way he treated his brother affected his brother life.

In John Landis’ 1980 film The Blues Brothers, “Joliet” Jake and Elwood Blues try to track down their old band members to remake The Blues Brother so they can raise enough money to save the orphanage where they grew up. Jake then decides that to accomplish this task, the brothers should bring their old band back together to play several shows and raise the money. The Blues Brothers travel all over Illinois to find their band members while police officers, Illinois Neo-Nazis, country singers, and a murderous ex-girlfriend try to find and kill them.

Miss Adela Strangeworth, a character in the short story “The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley Jackson, is a 71-year-old spinster living in a small town in the 1940’s. At the beginning, she seems like any normal old lady, but it is quickly realized that this is not the case and that she has a dark side. Of the many traits that Miss Strangeworth possesses, the most prominent are her deceptiveness, perfectionism, and the god complex that has developed.
