Dory character analyzation Finding nemo is highly popular film that captures attention of all audiences despite their age. It explores things like adventure, unlikely friendships and stepping out of your comfort zone. It is set under the ocean with a wide variety of sea and land animals as its characters. I found this film quite enjoyable as there were lots of challenges for the main characters that kept me engaged whilst watching the film. One particularly loveable character is dory who helps the main character marlin to find his lost son. Dory is a blue tang fish with “short term memory loss” and even though she struggles she will always help others with her kind heart. This makes her a favourable character towards the audience. Despite her fearlessness she is kind and light-hearted and approachable making it easier for her and marlin to complete the scary task of finding his son. Her demeanour and lovable attitude allows other animals to feel compelled to help and be her friend. An example of this is when her and marlin are lost in the sea and there is a big school of fish coming towards them. Marlin is fearful and hesitant and tells her to not approach them. The fish noticed that marlin is being bossy and ask if she is ok. Showing no fear, she tells them she is okay whilst marlin is petrified. The first interaction between the two characters isn’t a pleasant one as they swim into each other. The ominous music ends and changes to calm violin music. We can immediately tell by her concerned high-pitched voice along with her kind magenta eyes and cute freckles that she is innocent and means no harm to other fish, as she apologises instantly and expresses concern for marlins wellbeing. she immediately asks, “Are you ok?” her stuttering shows the audience that she is trying her best to make marlin feel calm and her reassuring tone makes marlin feel helpful that she can find the boat. Unfortunately, not long after this moment she forgets what she was looking for or talking about. Despite this she continues to help marlin to her full potential. Another example of how dory’s distinctive voice and appearance comes in handy when marlin is stressed out about the mask falling into deep sea and wants to give up, dory gives him motivation with the memorable line that she uses throughout the film “just keep swimming” whilst she dances deeper into the sea whilst singing and having a good time even in a bad situation. Hearing and seeing this in her high-pitched friendly voice and carefree body language, gives marlin the courage to not give up. Dory speech and appearance allow other fish to feel save and calm around
