Marlene Xique 10/4/17 M8 The Anti-Hero Anti-hero, anti-hero is a character that lacks characterists of a hero. It is the opposite of a hero but not a villian. The character has characteristics such as being selfish, insecurity, rebellious, and is very independent. The character can aslo be the outsider who does not fit-in, and has problems with authority & with rules, which we learned in class.

The most important characteristics of a hero are courage and determination. Fredric Douglas and Atticus Finch are both excellent examples of heroes. Fredric Douglas and Atticus Finch both show traits such as courage, determination, and kind hearts.
Guy Montag’s actions in the novel all fit into the traits of an anti-hero; actions like murder, rebelling against the government, or fighting for good in an unexpected way all prove to be qualities that portray Montag to be an anti-hero.
Brigid O'Shaughnessy is the classic femme fatale. What's a femme fatale, you ask? Good question. A French term meaning "deadly woman," a femme fatale is a seductive, mysterious woman who uses her femininity to lure men to do her bidding, leading them into compromising, often deadly situations. Which makes her such a great example of pathos like in the ending scene when she is trying to convince Sam Spade not to turn her over.
An anti-hero is a main character that does not possess the traditional heroic qualities and is instead admired for what is generally considered a weakness by society. They can also be someone who fights for the side of good but has a tragic flaw, or uses questionable means. On the back cover of Rule of the Bone by Russell Banks, there is a quote describing Chappie as a “young modern anti-hero”. The question that this arises is whether or not he should be considered an anti-hero. While Chappie is a character that can be admired despite his shortcomings, he doesn't fight for or sacrifice himself for any sort of ideal or side.
Neff Said: Mise-en-scene and Sound in Double Indemnity Film Noir is a genre filled with many interesting conventions. The films within Film Noir use narration, performance, lighting, and blocking in order to tell tales of murder, betrayal, and questionable morals.
It tends to upset the traditional power balance between the sexes and construct women as powerful and men as weak and threatened. The femme fatale was; a woman who seduces, exploits, and destroys her partners. O’Shaughnessy was deceitful and homicidal but also smart and ambitious. Their independence and power can be seen as a positive step in the representation of women. These women did not conform to the traditional role of the wife and mother.
The anti-hero often does terrible things with hopes of resulting in good outcome. He (or she) tends to be the only individual that the audience approves throughout the movie. Heroism in "Harrison Bergeron" The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a hero as someone "admired for achievements and noble qualities". The story "Harrison Bergeron" has no hero. Though some characters do display small glimpses of hero-like qualities, they either have a dishonorable past or do something in the moment that prevents them from maintaining a hero status through the story. For them, admiration is unattainable; they have no integrity.
Hero: A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities; however, heroism is not synonymous with perfection. Man can be a hero in spite of having some flaws. This is apparent in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a story about the Salem Witch Trials in which Abigail Williams accuses dozens of innocent people of witchcraft. Despite being flawed, John Proctor, Reverend Hale, and Elizabeth Proctor can demonstrate their heroism in The Crucible. John Proctor is shown to be both a hero and a flawed man in regards to his lechery.
Throughout the book there are many instances which prove that he is more anti-hero than hero. The protagonist displays acts of heroism but is it enough to consider him a hero? Is Winston an anti-hero because he does not always show the complete signs or look the way that a typical hero would. Winston looked at the world of 1984 through an intellectual eyeglass.
Hollywood has always done a terrible job of depicting real women in film, and although his work has a somewhat misogynistic reputation, Alfred Hitchcock has done so much involving the progression of female roles in Hollywood cinema. Although many of his female victims wind up dead, the survivors have lots of power – and without reliance on their male counterparts. Women remain the central focus in many of Hitchcock’s films, not just because of their beauty, but because the narrative is dependent on them. When you look at his work in the context of this specific Hollywood era, Hitchcock’s female characters are very much out of the ordinary. Looking past the obvious presence of gender roles (male and female) that just so happened to be a part of the social norm during that time, Hitchcock sought to represent women with having more depth, realism, and independence than ever before in women in Hollywood.
“Two Kinds,” by Amy Tan, essentially revolves around the struggle of Jing Mei and her constant conflict with her mother. Throughout her life, she is forced into living a life that is not hers, but rather her mom’s vision of a perfect child; because her mother lost everything, which included her parents and kids, so her only hope was through Jing Mei. Jing Mei’s mom watches TV shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show, which gives her inspiration that her daughter should be like the people and actors. First her mom saw how on the television a three-year-old boy can name all the capitals of the states and foreign countries and would even pronounce it correctly. Her mom would quiz Jing Mei on capitals of certain places, only to discover that
The term tragic hero is a character of noble birth who can emphasize with the audience by qualities. A tragic hero must create a situation that he or she can not change. According to Aristotle there are also certain characteristics in which a tragic hero must convey through their actions. In Shakespeare 's Macbeth some may see Macbeth as an antagonist, but Macbeth is a tragic hero because he holds high positions and works his way to more, recognizes his flaw, and shows responsibility for his doom.
