Amidst the solitude of darkness, and the flickering of the old light bulb, the child began to weep. Through the razor thin wall, he could hear the yells and arguments of his parents. Unlike the others, he would not show any sign of emotional distress outside of his own room. Unlike his parents, he would not take yell incessantly nor launch a barrage of swear words. To the outside world, I was the “smart” kid with “good” parents. It was almost as if I led a double-life; one where everything was perfect and the other where everything seemed pointless and futile. There were times when I thought that I would be better of leaving and never coming back, just like that character in The Outsiders. However, every argument almost ended the same way;
