The Hutchinson 's were unfortunate in the timing of their settlement in this area, and soon became victims of the local unrest. This novel by S.E Hinton, The Outsiders shows a crucial point that everybody is special in some way and should be known as who they are individuality not as a group. The Outsiders is a book that describes 2 gangs , the luxurious Socs, and the hoodlum Greasers. While they have conflicts with each other, the protaganist, Ponyboy, finds his identity outside of the gang. The important message of the story is that everyone has a unique personality that are developed by being in a group of people away from home, this identity can shape anyone’s way of life and the path they may take in the future. In the book The Outsiders,by S.E Hinton I believe there are many great examples of friendship especially inside the gang of greasers. There were many good examples of friendship in this great book but in the end I choose to pick the friendship between Johnny and Ponyboy. Throughout this novel Ponyboy and Johnny stick with each other until the end. Throughout the novel there are numerous examples of how Ponyboy and Johnny help each other out and show why they are great friends. Whenever we need to break unsatisfactory habits, change our ways of thinking, or even do something differently, no matter how hard we try, many of us go back to our old habits/selves. It is important to use all our will and realize when we are referring back to our old ideology and try as much as we can to build a new way of thinking. Through many classic stories, main characters look as if they are on their road to change by starting to build the new, but it is just too hard for them and they want conformity, so they go back to their old selves. According to the article, “Teen Gangstas”, by Raychelle Cassada Lohmann, the plight of Ponyboy Curtis, the protagonist from S.E. Hinton’s classic young adult novel, The Outsiders, will end tragically unless he adopts a pet in which he grows and bond and cares for.
Self discovery is a major part of growing up, yet it can be difficult at times. The characters of S.E. Hinton’s “The Outsiders” experience self discovery through growing up in a divided and harsh environment, which is what makes this story so unique and captivating. The first event that showcases the characters discovering more about themselves was when Johnny and Ponyboy are in a deep conversation about their friend group when Jonny says, “ Yeah, I guess we’re different,” (Hinton 78). By “we” he was referring to himself and Ponyboy, comparing
In the story The Outsiders there were many times the characters had choices and we grew to know each character more and more because of the choices they made. The choices the characters made in the story defined who they are and what they’re like. A choice means an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities. What you choose to do is your decision and it will affect you and others. First off your choices could leave you to bad consequences.
The novel Outsiders is written by S.E. Hinton. The novel is written about a young boy named ‘Ponyboy’ and in the area that he grew up in there was a gang called the ‘greasers’. As a result of this, readers understand that loyalty is not only found in family members but also the people you treat as family, the sort of people that deserve loyalty. Someone once said, “ Life is all about making choices. Always do your best to make the right ones and always do your best to learn from the wrong ones”- Anonymous. Choices can always look instructive whether they are great or bad. Often, a string of good choices makes it easier to continue down the path, good consequences paving the way to more good choices. However, poor choices often have unlimited consequences.
People are often misconceived for what they present on the outside, not what’s on the inside. This is shown in a number of characters in a number of novels. One of these novels, is called the Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton. In this novel, there is a boy named Johnny, who is in a gang called the greasers. He is like the pet of the gang, and without him, their is no balance between the gang mates.
In S.E. Hinton’s story, The Outsiders, group identity is so important that sometimes people overshadow their own identity. In our generation it is kind of the same way to some people, for instance people sometimes act and dress differently around the popular kids to fit in. While at home they do their normal routine and stay true to themselves. This is so important to the story for many reasons. It is also really important to kids this age in 2017.
