Specifically, I want to practice family law, and help families try to stay together, even in the worst kinds of situations. I hope to influence legislation to give children more rights in the court system because I believe that they do not have enough. Finally, I hope to come back to the Independence Youth Court and serve as a mentor for volunteers just like me who need guidance in their college and career planning. I hope to continue my work with the Independence Youth Court long after I pass the Bar
The thing I want to do when I complete college is to be a parole officer. A parole officer job supervise criminal offenders who have been released from prison. They monitor parolees, help them find suitable living arrangements and meet with assigned parolees regularly. To be able to compete in this career field I have to earn a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, psychology, or social work. After completing 4 years of college I will have to complete a series classes that cover correctional strategies, forensics, legal research, criminal psychology and offender rehabilitation.

I want more opportunities to apply a person-centric and collaborative approach to service that empowers people to improve their own quality of life. In the short term, I want to dedicate the summers during law school entirely to public service internships in places like the Department of Justice or in Congressional legal offices. In the long term, I want to prosecute systematic corruption, tackle fraud, and fight for oppressed communities as a federal prosecutor or even an attorney general. Like the disabled veteran I met, so many disadvantaged individuals are forgotten and left to fend for themselves against the systemic oppression and indifference. As a lawyer, I hope to partner with victims of indifference and oppression, like the people of Ferguson, Missouri and Flint, Michigan so to empower them to improve their quality of life through the legal process.

My goal with my college degree is to graduate with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and eventually transition into law school within the state of Georgia. After law school, I plan to become a juvenile and immigration attorney in hopes of one day becoming a positive influence and defender for those without a voice. However, as a first generation college student, financially speaking attending college has not been easy. Surviving college would have been impossible without the support of my mother.
I do not have a major chosen out yet, but I am sure I will figure out what I want to do with in the next year. Right now I am considering fields in biology or psychology. I also enjoy art and creativity, so I want to integrate that into my field of study. I want to work a job that I will enjoy, but I also want to be payed well. Because of the subjects I like it will be difficult to find a job that fits those goals.

I really enjoy helping others in any way so I figured why not pursue a career as a probation officer. Not only will I be helping others, but I will be preventing an offender from repeating the same mistake.
As a Human Service major what better way to learn more about the profession than from someone who has experience in the field. I chose to interview a friend of mine, Florence Martus. Growing up, children are always asked what they want to be when they grow up. For most kids, the most common answers include a doctor,a vet, a firefighter and the most funniest, a superhero. For me I started off wanting to be a Pediatrician, but later on as I got older, I loved the idea of hearing people's troubles and problems. I participated in many clubs in school for peer mediation, problem solver, As well as I was in counseling, due to a bullying issue in elementary and middle school. The Profession of Social Work as a Career Goal Graduating from high school, I have always had a passion working with kids. I never put into thought exactly what I wanted to do with kids, all I knew was that I wanted to work with kids. At first, my career choice was to become a midwife. There were several complications down the road, in which I could no longer pursue that career choice.
In five years, I hope to be in college, studying about something I'm interested in. I want to get into a good college with a great psychology program where I can learn enough about it so I can turn it into a progression. One thing I've noticed is that it's hard to find a hobby which is directly related to psychology, unlike other professions where your hobbies can be very similar to what you would be doing in that job. I believe that given the environment I was born into, where I have had to help many people to get through tough periods in their lives, I could be a good psychologist. This being my reality, I have grown to enjoy listening to people’s problems and difficulties and trying to help them to the best of my abilities.
